Topic Idea: Kid Dress Codes

There are two stories in the news causing controversy, both over school dress codes and kids that apparently violated them. This story on The Stir is about a young child who’s hairdresser father created a bow out of hair like Lady Gaga for his daughter’s school picture day. She was sent home because the bow violated the dress code.

Another story on Huffington Post describes an outraged mom who picked her daughter up from school over “inappropriate dress” only to find her wearing completely normal, appropriate clothing.

Set Up Ideas:

• “Ask a teacher” (or principal). Have teachers call in with stories from personal experience or just to talk to them about how they feel about dress codes.
