Year-End Show Priorities
Tis’ the season to review the passing year and form a vision for the new one. This checklist will help you clean up unaddressed issues and come roaring out of the gate in 2023.
MANAGEMENT AND HOST REVIEW
Meet with your staff one-on-one. The priority for management and show hosts is to ask questions and be active listeners to hear out dreams, goals, and grievances.
Questions and points to consider:
- Review each individual’s 2022 goals. Were they achieved or not? Why?
- What are your personal and show goals for the new year?
- How would you like to contribute more to the station or show?
- Are you being coached/managed in the most effective way to perform at your best? How do you like to receive feedback?
- Describe your relationship with management and staff/cast members.
- What do you need to be a better performer?
SHOW CHECKLIST
Roles: Review the on and off-air roles for each show member. Is mic time balanced? Are the off-air workloads evenly distributed? Are everyone’s skills and talents being maximized?
Planning: How can group planning sessions be improved? Is there a balance of group and individual planning? Are the players communicating with one another throughout the day and evening to get the best content on the show? Is there a pre-show huddle to finalize the day’s show schedule?
Content: Conduct a review of your regular features and benchmarks. How can they be improved? Do some need to be rested temporarily or permanently? Brainstorm for new content ideas to be implemented in the new year.
Imaging and branding: Is the imaging and production fresh and up to date? Are show highlight clips and character clips featuring the individual players being aired?
Digital: How does the level of social media engagement compare to competitors? Are show highlights posted daily in short form and is the entire show coded for Nielsen? Is the show posting audio and video highlights? How is the content balance (links, pictures, videos, behind-the-scenes, personalized comments)?
During this holiday season, consider unplugging from media to restore and recharge your body, mind, and emotions.
It’s been fun and productive working with you this year, and we are excited to collaborate with you for a stellar 2023!
